Congratulations Irene Gibson!
The owner of iconic Auckland music store, Drum City, Irene Gibson was nominated for a KiaOraMai Awesome Service Award for the way she treated a young customer wanting a pair of drumsticks.
As Nial Greenstock explains it was an an example of great customer service, despite the realtively low value of the item:
"My son is 7 years old and loves to drum - he is also special needs. We visited drum city to buy him some new drum sticks. Irene and Tristan were not only helpful, but they also engaged my son as a customer. Irene was informative and friendly, and as a result we enrolled our son in drum lessons, following her recommendation. He now goes to see Chris, one of the drum tutors at Drum City, every week; and loves every minute of it. Music in general, and drumming in particular, is something that I think many special needs kids relate to and it was a real pleasure to meet such a knowledgeable retailer who identified this and was so keen to help us out."
