Lorraine Young of Kooky Fashions in Whangarei was nominated for the kindness and compassion she showed a customer.
Yvette Watts explains:
"Two days before I was due to leave Whangarei for Tauranga to attend my son's wedding I collected my outfit from my dress maker, being overweight I decided that to have an outfit made would turn out a better result than buying one...how wrong could I be? The dress maker completely botched the job and the outfit was a disaster, can you imagine the absolute panic I was in when I rushed into Kookys two Sundays ago to grab at anything that would fit. Lorraine Young not only wiped away the torrent of tears but she calmed me down and together we attacked the problem. It was a 3 piece suit but unfortunately there wasn't a jacket to fit in the store so she hunted one down to Wellington and it was duly delivered to my daughter's house in Tauranga. She then tissue wrapped everything and gave it to me to take home without any form of payment. Visa numbers were phoned through later. Her service, compassion and professionalism was outstanding and I really hope she wins this award."
